Neighborhood Council NEWS


Elections are focus of GRVNC

In recent meetings, the neighborhood council has been focused on preparing for annual elections to be held in June. This is probably a wise move since last year the old board did no preplanning for the elections, for which they were roundly criticized by both the city's Dept. of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE) and by the League of Women Voters.

Airplane Crash

A small plane crashed into the rear of a house in the 3300 block of Mountain View Avenue in Mar Vista, setting the home on fire. The Malibu couple, Paul Tobias, a psychologist age 71, the pilot, and his wife, Paula, a sculptor, age 60, were both killed.

Lincoln Place

While housing costs soar and homeless walk the street, AIMCO keeps Lincoln Place Apartments empty in their plan to destroy a special affordable housing community in Venice. They have been withholding vacated apartments to avoid having to evict new tenants later for their redevelopment plans.

Revolutionary Women - 1777 & 2004

On April 1777, British General William Tyron invaded Connecticut from Long Island Sound. He attacked with 2,000 men. His purpose was to burn down the Danbury depot filled with guns and cannons so the patriots were disarmed. As Danbury burned, a messenger was sent to ride 17 miles to the home of Sybil Ludington's father General Henry Ludington.
