Venice Ice Storm
By John
Davis
Thor, the Norse God of Thunder,
has been swinging his hammer on Venice, lately, raining down lightening, sound
and ice.
Currently, 2005 stands as the third wettest
season recorded in California history and may edge to first with a couple more
storms.
On one night, Venetians were
treated to booming thunder and flashes of lightening at three in the morning.
Streets were turned into rivers and staircases miniature waterfalls.
Then the "shhhhhhhh" sound of hail
replaced the rain. Venice was blanketed in ice.
Knowing nobody would believe Venice
really had ice on the ground, I quickly went outside to gather some of the
pea-sized hailstones and molded them into two ice snowballs then tossed them
into the freezer.
Two days later,
Venice was placed under a tornado watch and a water spout, an ocean tornado, was
seen in Santa Monica Bay.
So brace for
more wet weather this year, it may wake you in the middle of the night. As for
the fate of the two ice balls, they have been recycled into Venice Margaritas.
