The Great Peace Wall of Venice
The Peace Wall at California Avenue and Electric
Avenue is the hidden treasure of Venice.
It was created in 1998 as a monument to peace in
Venice and around the world, racial equality and harmony, and hope for the
future. While it is a contribution to all of Venice, it has special meaning for
Oakwood, which at the time was beset with gang warfare.
The wall is decorated on both sides.
Above is the north side, and below are some of the individual tiles. Many of the
artists are Oakwood children.
