The Martin Luther King Kingdom Day Parade
has been celebrated for the last 20 years and
over a million people take to the streets of Los Angeles to remember the life
and works of the great man.
The 2008 parade, themed “30 Years of
Continuing the Dream,” commences on Martin Luther King Blvd at Crenshaw
and lasts for two miles until Western. It includes more than 150 floats, 20
drill teams, ten dance groups, and celebrities
aplenty.
Local vendors and
restaurants spill out onto the street in the carnival atmosphere. Streets around
the parade area are closed off at 8.30am, so if you're planning to drive, you'd
better get up early.
